What cultural values are present when someone is avenging the death of their family?

Just need some help on cultural values for my story. The character in this story is avenging the death of her family who was killed by a serial killer. Thanks for the help.

1. Well you could go with the religious value that killing is wrong. But then we need to know if the character is going to kill the murderer or just bring him to justice. Another value is that murder upsets the community by taking productive members out of society for no culturally valid reason. Try some brainstorming to come up with your own ideas. That's when you sit around and write out thoughts on what is wrong with murder. Even the silly ones can be valuable, so don't censor yourself. Sorry I can't be more helpful, but I'm not sure I understand what you are asking.
