How significant is the choice of SC Chief Justice by President Arroyo?

Aren't they ALL GMA appointees by now? Each one of the justices are GMA appointees and decisions are made by all of them voting, one justice one vote. The CJ votes in case of ties in some cases, but his vote counts as one just like any other justice. What's the big deal? Is Noynoy going to remove all the justices and replace them with all of his appointees? So much for separation of powers.

  1. For one, it is the President's job to do so, whoever that president may be. It fills in the vacuum when the present CJ retires. It is still a long way until Sen. Noynoy Aquino takes his oath, so PGMA will still be serving as the President and must fully perform the functions of the country's chief executive until then. Sen. Aquino may just be shaking in his boots at this time. That's because he is going to deal with Senate President Villar, House Speaker Arroyo, the Marcos triad resurrected, his burning wish to finally crack the case of his father's murder once and for all, and a CJ and SC who may not be apolitical. A presidency with only so much power would only be half the fun. Or he may simply want to appoint one from his own circle apart from the cabinet. He would really need to shed some of his arrogance.
  2. if noynoy will really investigate PGMA's anomalies then it will have an impact, justices will vote and the more on your side the better.
  3. I rather test the constitutionality of the issue than the political impact of the issue. SC with finality said that PGMA can appoint a new CJ. PGMA has chose Associate Justice Renato Corona as the successor of CJ Reynato Puno because of the seniority in the court.
  4. It is illegal, but since the SC is on her side she was allowed to appoint the new chief justice. the only way to remove them is by impeachment, the president only appoints them. Aquino is stuck with Mrs. Arroyo's appointees. the supreme court will favor Mrs. Arroyo's schemes. she can be prime minister too because the majority of the congress are her bitches
  5. there was a vacancy due to retirement and a replacement has to be appointed by the sitting president. everyone was just doing his/her job. this is not one of those midnight appointees that our brand of government is so infamous for. no big deal as far as i'm concerned. just so happens that a new president will be taking over soon. nagkataon lang.
